NICOR/UKRR-NCKDA

Description

We aim to evaluate cardiac care for patients with chronic kidney disease by linking data held by the UK Renal Registry, the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR), Hospital Episode Statistics (HES), Patient Database for Wales (PEDW), and the National Chronic Kidney Disease Audit Database (NCKDA-D). Specifically, we hope to (i) examine discrepancies between the data capture of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) events between HES/PEDW and NICOR; (ii) validate the routine use of a single hospital admission serum creatinine value (recorded in NICOR) as a proxy for pre-admission CKD stage, a practice employed in previous analyses of cardiovascular events in CKD populations; and (iii) examine access to care and outcomes after ACS in patients with CKD of different stages (including no CKD) stratified by ACS type. By including clinical, laboratory, medication, and renal replacement therapy (RRT) data from UKRR, we will be able to identify patients receiving RRT including those with kidney transplant in these analyses. These data will be crucial to account for severity of kidney disease in our analyses.
