PHOSPHATE

PHOSPHATE is a project that Thomas Hiemstra has applied for funding for. The idea is to recruit two cohorts - one of which will be given (more) medication to reduce their phosphate level and the other which which will be given less medication and allowed to have a higher phosphate level. Outcomes for both groups, particularly incidence of Cardio-Vascular events will be compared.

This is to see if the current practice of prescribing medication to reduce phosophate levels is of clinical benefit.

The process is intended to work in an almost identical way to the SIMPLIFIED project submitting a cohort of patients to the UKRR and then receiving data from the UKRR and UKRDC ("PV") databases.
