Birmingham Children's Hospital Rare Diseases Database (Star Register)

Description

This is a customisation project for RaDaR to provide a stadalone version for use in the new Rare Diseases Centre for Children based at Birmingham Children's Hospital. We will provide a modified version of RaDaR that provides some custom screens but largely the same as the current RaDaR system. The system will be hosted at Birmingham and we will be providing the system and assisting win its set up initially.

It has been proposed that we send a VM image to BCH since they have limited linux knowledge. This is risky since we have not been using this process so could get bogged down in the method of supply and not in the contents. We have now proposed following a process similar to that which we use in Bristol when provisioning a new VM.

Provision a 40G VM. Install a minimal CentOS7/RedHat7 OS. Configure the networking to allow ssh access. Install a version of postgres version 9.4 or later. We will then login remotely to install the RaDaR code and configure the database. The VM would need to have  web access for us to see the web interface and should also have access to the internet for downloading updates and libraries.

BCH have responded via Adam Carson

Hi all – I’m afraid that this spec is somewhat challenging for us as we don’t currently support Linux VMs, or have the expertise within the team to manage. I need to discuss further with our technical services team, but is this the only option available to us?

Adam

We have now created a VM in virtualbox which has been downloaded and deployed at BCH for them to test and look at the current Code version. It is likely this image will neeed some tweaking before final deployment. One option may be to SSH to the deployed VM to make the changes to the code base.
